The inspiration for the Highlander Bag draws from the Scottish roots of Salado, Texas. In 1825, Elijah Sterling Clack Robertson—pioneer and empresario—brought nearly 600 families, most of Scottish descent, to settle in this region. His son, Col. Elijah Sterling C. Robertson, later donated land in 1859 to establish the village of Salado. The community flourished, nourished by fertile land and flowing springs, and its heritage lives on today in the annual Scottish Gathering and Highland Games, hosted every November by the Salado Museum and College Park.

The Highlander Bag is designed to be both practical and stylish—worn comfortably as a crossbody or over the shoulder. Its form is inspired by the traditional Scottish sporran, a small leather pouch worn with Highland dress.

At the center of the design is a concho bearing the image of the thistle—Scotland’s national flower. A symbol of resilience, pride, and protection, it honors the strength and spirit of the Highland people.

The interior is lined with a durable canvas featuring the Texas Bluebonnet tartan. This tartan was designed by June Prescott McRoberts (1922–1999), the owner of the beloved Thistles & Bluebonnets shop in Salado, and was officially adopted as the Texas State Tartan in 1989. It’s a perfect fusion of Texas and Scottish heritage.

Each Highlander Bag is handcrafted from 100% full-grain cowhide leather, chosen for its quality and durability. The leather will develop a rich patina over time, gaining character with every use. The bag features a magnetic clasp integrated with the concho, an adjustable leather strap, and is hand-stitched using high-strength braided thread for lasting durability and a signature finish.
